If you have a huge stash of buttons, like I do, time to dig some out to make some cute dangle earrings with! And I have an easy photo tutorial for you to follow.
Welcome to the May Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, I am sharing a fun, easy and quick earring tutorial.
This month, I decided to try something I have been thinking about for a long time, but it wasn’t until the recently published Simple Button Earrings from Sum of their Story that I really got the kick in the butt I needed to try.
Julie’s original project uses one button, but I wanted a paired with was more dangly. I really like the long, slender look.
While I was at Hobby Lobby last week to teach my crochet class (I do that now!), I found a set of 6 of these beautiful natural wood buttons, and that was that.
I went home, and dug out my variety pack of jump rings I found a couple years ago on Etsy from a shop called Ali C’s Supply Shop (a favorite of mine, currently on vacation).
Materials:
- 6 5/8″ 16mm Buttons – I used this Set of 6 16mm Wood Buttons from Hobby Lobby
- 6 7mm Silver Plated Jump Rings (3 for each earring)
- 10 9mm Silver Plated Jump Rings (5 for each earring)
- Pair of Earring Wires – I like to use 20mm French Hooks
- Jewelry Plier/s – I like to use two, one for each hand
Material Notes:
Jump Rings: I had a variety pack on hand, and I was able to see which would fit best. Depending on the distance from the outside of the button to the button hole, you may need a smaller or bigger size jump ring to fit comfortably – I can only speak from my exact materials.
Time Spent:
6-10 Minutes for the Pair
Measurements:
Dangle 3″ in Length
DIY Notes:
Always open jump rings, and earring wires towards you, not side to side. Close in the same manner.
Jewelry DIY:
I like to layout the pieces in the order I will be using them.
Two attach two buttons together, we will need one 7mm and two 9mm jump rings in between…
Open one 9mm jump ring, hook button, and 7mm jump ring, then close…
Open another 9mm jump ring, hook the previously added 7mm jump ring, and the next button…
Open another 9mm jump ring for the top button, and hook on another 7mm jump ring before closing…
Open another 9mm jump ring, and hook to previously added 7mm jump ring, and last button, then close…
Open last 7mm jump ring, hook previously added 9mm jump ring, and earring hook, then close.
Make a second earring for the pair, and you are ready to wear them out!
