Did you know it takes less than 5 minutes to make your own eye-friendly, all-natural mascara at home?
I’ve been using this DIY mascara recipe for over a year now, and I use it as my everyday mascara because I consider products I use around my eyes as the most important to be 100% natural.
This post may contain affiliate links, at no extra cost to you.
This recipe is all-natural, non-toxic, easy to make, and so eye-healthy that it can even prevent eye infections.
You get the ingredients once (if you don’t have them at home already) and they’ll be enough for years to come.
You’ll also find a few alternations you can do, such as adding Castor oil to treat dry eyes and strengthen eyelashes, or a mascara recipe without Beeswax.

Since I’m camera-shy, I found this video with a clear demonstration for the exact recipeI make:
It’s also very important to do a patch test before applying it to your eyes, as some ingredients may cause an allergic reaction.
About the Ingredients
1. Activated Charcoal – this miraculous substance is so much more than a natural dye.
This inexpensive substanceis incredibly useful and has mind-blowing health and beauty uses.

Studies showthat one cubic inch of activated charcoal can absorb the equivalent of 150,000 square feet of toxins.
That’s why activated charcoal may bethe fastest and best home remedy for pink eye and other eye infections.
When I have an eye infection I simply empty a tea bag and replace the tea with about ¼ or ½ teaspoon ofactivated charcoal.
If I repeat it a few times a day, the infection disappears in 24 hours.
I use AC for so many things. Here are some of them:
- Food poisoning
- Teeth infections and teeth whitening
- Mosquito bites and bee stings relief
- Gas and bloating relief
- And much more
2. Vitamin E oil – it’s the best natural preservative and will help keep your mascara for at least 6 weeks (in my experience).
3. Coconut oil – is considered safe to use around the eyes and many people use it as a remedy for dry eyes. It’s important to use organic coconut oil to prevent toxins from getting inside your eyes.
4. Beeswax – the purified wax from the honeycomb of the bee, Beeswax is used as a thickening agent and helps to stabilize the mascara and keep in your eyelashes.
It will stiffen your mascara without hardening it. It also keeps the lash curl nice and tight. It leaves the lashes hydrated and conditioned, and is waterproof!
5. Aloe Vera Gel – Aloe is a natural astringent and helps keep the mixture from getting too oily. It also helps smooth out the blend.
it’s highly important to use 100% natural and organic Aloe Vera. If you have your own aloe vera – that’s best.

And now, a few alternative recipes:
DIY Mascara Without Beeswax
If you are allergic to bee products, you obviously can’t use this recipe. Instead of Beeswax use 1/4 tsp bentonite clay.
Bentonite clay helps the mascara dry and harden and not smudge. Any cosmetic clay should work.
DIY Mascara With Castor Oil
If you want to make your DIY mascara even healthier for your eyes – add a few drops of organic hexane-free Castor oil to it.
Why Castor Oil?
First:
In my experience, Castor oil is the best home remedy for dry eyes. There’s no science behind it, but for me, it works and if you read my post about it you’ll see many more success stories in the comments.
Second:
Castor oil can boost eyelashes growth and strength.

I use it to cleanse and moisturize my skin, and get rid of chapped lips, blemishes, redness, sunburns, and pigmentation.
I rub a few drops of it every night and wake up with glowing skin and lessunder-eye puffiness.
Important note: it’s highly important to only use an organic, hexane-free Castor oil, like this one.
How Long Does a DIY Mascara Last?
Homemade Mascara typically has a shelf life of 2-3 months when it is properly stored in an airtight container and in a cool and dry place. To make sure it lasts, make sure that all ingredients are fresh and that the utensils you use to make it are clean and sterilized.
You’ll know it’s gone bad if it gives off a bad odor, or other changes such as clumping, and drying out.
Toxins Inside Industrial Mascara
According to a Harvard University study, a lot of waterproof mascara, liquid lipsticks, and foundations have a high amount of a chemical called fluorine. This means that they may have harmful chemicals inside called PFASs. You may heard about those because they are often used in Teflon cookware and are considered dangerous.
Summary
You’ve just learned the super simple way to make your own all-natural mascara at home while keeping your eyes healthy and happy.
I make my own makeup for years and trust me – it’s so simple a child can do it.
I also make my own skincare products, and I haven’t bought an industrial product for ages.
